Monitizing MySpace? Pressure for Profits and the Costs Associated

MySpace.com announced yesterday it will start selling episodes of Fox's hit series "24" this month. A first for MySpace, the move reflects a clear pressure from parent News Corp. to convert the site's burgeoning popularity into profits, according to Online Media Daily.

Taking a page from iTunes, Fox is pricing the episodes from the first five seasons at $1.99 each. But as part of a sponsorship deal with Burger King, the article notes, "the first two episodes are on The King." (You're on your own for getting past his creepiness though.)

Naturally, a MySpace page for the "24" series is in the works as well.

Will the MySpace fan base pay up?
