When the Bell Can't Save You, Can Viral Marketing?

What happens when an old T.V. star needs help recovering from bad credit?
He begs for money through viral marketing.

Dustin Diamond, also known as Screech from the 80's T.V. show "Saved by the Bell," recently got served with a notice of foreclosure on his house in Wisconsin. He was offered some help through a connection to someone who works for the New York Capital Exchange. After he was assured everything was taken care of from this connection, everything fell through.

So now to save his house he needs money - quick. The humor twist is the public humiliation he is laying on the "connection" that left him stranded. His approach is a viral marketing campaign to raise money from fans and the general public who get a kick out of the humor behind this story.

How to feel like part of the solution?
You can buy a brick on his website for $1000 which is basically an advertising spot for your business. Or, you can buy a T-shirt ($15 / $20 autographed) and advertise to everyone that you helped Screech get his house back!

There are various viral aspects to this campaign which are creating a huge buzz:

A funny shirt that people would love to support for a good laugh
Buying a brick on the website to market your business
Free Ringtones
Word of Mouth
Press Coverage because of the star status and humor
Adding your own mortgage stories to the website

Screech pleads to join his fight against injustice by helping to save his house!
So I guess Dustin Diamond will find out for himself if Viral Marketing has the power he needs to keep a roof over his head.

That is funny but I wonder if it is just a scam to promote the website listed at the bottom of the getdshirts one. Because he has the opening video on that site:
ratecomedy.com Either way, great viral marketing

What do you think of viral marketing websites? I'm sure you caught some of the buzz surrounding Eon8 (turned out to be "social experimentation"), but what do you make of sites like http://www.ja-0.com which offer no explanation and aren't "actively" advertising anything?

This is a message to anyone who purchased a shirt, for any reason.

I purchased a shirt, paying with paypal (given proof) in June.

It has been months since then and I have recieved no shirt.

I have made requests for refunds and for info on what's going on and have had no reply.

If anyone has has the same thing happen, please e-mail me.

All we need is people to say "yes I paid, I have proof, and I have no shirt"

This is outright fraud. And something needs to be done.

E-mail me, and I will get something done with enough support, PLEASE.

This is complete BS. He can't afford a house and he begged people to help. He said it wasn't a hoax, he said he hoped enough people would pitch in to help and they did and he screwed everyone.

e-mail me warman69@hotmail.com

I have had contact with a reporter from a newspaper who is truly interested, so if you like I can also forward your contact info to him.

Thanks!
