So Much "Space" on the Web
By now it is well known that MySpace is the fastest growing Web brand website out there, with an increase to 46 million unique visitors in 2006 - a 183% increase from 2005. However, eMarketer.com highlights that MySpace is not the only user-generated content site that is leading the pack.
With various blogging, video sharing and photo sharing sites, Internet content is now in the hands of the user. Nielsen//NetRatings reports that these types of sites hold five out of the top 10 positions for fastest-growing Web brands. Jon Gibs of Nielsen//NetRatings commented, "User-generated content sites have seen significant growth over the past year, owing in large part to their reliance on viral marketing. They also benefit from their cost-effectiveness — the content is practically free."
Other user-generated sites securing positions in the top 10 are:
Fourth place is an Image-hosting site, ImageShack. They have an audience of 7.7 million, which was a 233% increase from July 2005.
Fifth place is a video-sharing site, Heavy.com. Now with 3 million unique visitors, a 213% increase.
Sixth place is Flickr, a photo-sharing site that has 6.3 unique visitors, which is another large percentage increase of 201% from 2005.
Debra Aho Williamson, eMarketer senior analyst reports, "The continued growth of MySpace and other user-generated content sites shows that Web users are eager to let their voices be heard.”
Soon, it will be hard to believe that there was once a time where user generated sites were unknown. These sites are growing rapidly and making their own place on the Web.

It's a wonder to think how long it took people to realize how to please people...just let them run the show. Now who will win with advertising?
