Fuel for Viral Marketing
Viral marketing is fueled by viral videos. They are a huge part of low-cost, word-of-mouth campaigns. With the rapid success and newly utilized platform, it is a hot commodity when it comes to selling ad space.
Recently, MediaPost reported that a telephone poll by AP and AOL uncovered users' feeling toward advertising on internet videos. The statistics show that "71% of U.S. Internet users who watch online video prefer to watch and download videos for free, sponsored by pre-roll advertising, while only 23% said they would prefer to pay for ad-free content."
A rule of capturing the consumer is keeping the message short to keep their attention, and the report reflects this by showing that users do prefer shorter videos.
The report also uncovered these findings:
20% of respondents had downloaded or watched a full-length film or TV show
54% of U.S. Internet users consume video online
32% say they watch more video online than they did a year ago
80% say their TV viewing habits remain unchanged
Obviously, on-line videos are sticking around. They are evolving and will ultimately be molded by consumer preference.
